USB Flex Charger (Li-Ion & NiMH)
The ultimate in travel convenience: Compact, smart, good looking. The Flex Charger will charge both li-ion and NiMh chemistry via it's magnetic contacts! This is really the "only" good travel charger I've ever used. Everthing else is bigger, and that's not better when you are on the go.
I don't believe in plug-in charging for flashlights or batteries because charging ports are the most common source of failure. I don't want to be left in the dark because of some "feature" that's really a bug.
Battery NOT included
Departing from the conventional old school chargers with battery trays, the Flex Charger fits right in your pocket to go wherever life takes you. With the USB interface, you have the convenience of being able to charge from a wall plug, laptop, external battery, or pretty much anything that provides power through a USB port.
No need to worry about shorting out your battery with the Flex Charger. The contacts are not specific to either the positive or negative terminals; just make sure that one contact is attached to each of the two battery terminals. The magnetic charging leads make sure your battery is always properly connected and receiving power, while the internal electronics of the Flex Charger automatically match the output of the charger to the requirements of the connected battery.
WARNING: Do not use non-rechargeable batteries with the charger. Attempting to recharge non-rechargeable batteries can cause dangerous heat buildup and damage the battery, which may result in personal injury or damage to nearby devices.
Never charge batteries when the cell is cold! You can discharge cold batteries, but charging a cold battery can create an internal short circuit causing catastrophic damage and a possible fire. This effect is immediate, dramatic, and irreversible.
Rechargeable Lithium-Ion (3.7V): 10440, 14500, 16340 (RCR123A), 16650, 17670, 18650, 21700, 26650
Once connected to a power source, the light at the base of the cord will change color depending on the status:
- Blinking Red: plugged in, but not currently charging a battery
- Solid Red: charging is underway
- Solid Green: charging is complete
If your Li-Ion battery does not begin charging when hooked up to the leads, you may have over-discharged the battery and tripped the protection circuit. This makes it hard for the Flex charger to figure out what is going on. However, flipping the leads back and forth a couple of times normally allows the Flex Charger to reset the protection circuit.
Best practice is to recharge early and often. You should not use the protection circuit as a low battery indicator. Over discharging the battery damages it and shortens battery life and lowers battery capacity.
WARNING: Do not use non-rechargeable batteries with the charger. Attempting to recharge non-rechargeable batteries can cause dangerous heat buildup and damage the battery, which may result in personal injury or damage to nearby devices.
