Like everything, I obsess over the details. The wall mount is comprised of 3 separate pieces that slip fit together. Two screws that attach the light to the wall also secure the parts into a solid assembly after mounting. The two mounting holes are designed to accept standard wood screws. Finding a stud in the wall is on you ;) Four slots accommodate the USB-C cable on either side at 90 degrees or tucked back towards the wall at 60 degrees. The hole on the bottom front is for screwdriver access when mounting.
Customers have been asking for a wall-mounted option for a while. Normally the MXS lives on a horizontal surface, but now it can levitate. Launching the MXS Safety Red on Kickstarter seemed like the perfect motivation for me to spend a hundred hours in CAD and making a dozen prototypes on our 3D printers. These are printed and finished in-house on our Formlabs Fuse1 Powder SLS printer from robust Nylon 12.
The over-center arms keep the light secure with just the right amount of force. When inserted, the arms allow the light to slide downwards with the force of gravity, making sure the light remains in contact with the inductive charging base.
I love the fact we can make this in house because any other method would be prohibitively expensive. Machining would be insane. Injection molding is the obvious choice, but the tooling for something like this would be $30K-$50K...we'd never sell enough to recoup the cost of the tooling. Enter the perfect solution, modern industrial 3D printing!
