Prometheus Fridge Pen
Please Note: Some stainless refrigerators are made from a "high nickel" alloy that reduces magnetism. If none of your magnets stick properly, then this is the problem...not counting those flat decorative magnets...those never stick well :)
I got tired of constantly searching for a pen when adding to our grocery list. Taking a page out of the lean manufacturing book, I decided it would be great to have a pen that's always close at hand for the intended task. The refill is the same profile as the Fischer Space Pen, so you can use either type of cartridge.
A hidden magnet does double duty: it holds the base to your selected surface and holds the pen in place with...well...magic. I even use these pens in the shop. Each machine has post-it notes nearby...but where is my pen? In it's home base of course.
One of the primary principles of lean manufacturing is to eliminate waste: time, materials, and motion. I apply this to my life as well. I mean, I'm not obsessing about it, but when an opportunity presents itself, I take action...sometimes it takes years, but at least I'm trying right? Right?
A lean method to eliminate waste is having tools close at hand for the intended task...especially repetitive tasks...and those tools must also have a home. Enter the fridge pen, a lean improvement for your life. Quality of life is hard to quantify, but for me, eliminating chronic frustration is one of them. My kids even put the pen back because the magnet makes it fun. Need I say more?
I'm sure you've wasted as much of your life searching for a grocery list pen as I have, but I say no more!
